How do I sign up?

If someone else in your group has already signed your campaign up to Zylum, you don't need to do that again. You simply need to request an invitation from them. They can add you as a Contributor or a Participant.

To sign your campaign up, click the purple button Register for Zylum here. Give us your e-mail address, two Deputies and the name of your campaign. You can choose an abbreviated name as your web address if you like. Tell us why you want to use Zylum, then sit back and wait.

We hate to keep you waiting, but real human beings need to look at all applications to ensure we are not overwhelmed by people wanting a free website eg. for business. If you believe that anyone is abusing their Zylum account for purposes other than promoting social and ecological justice, please let us know. In signing up, you agree to abide by our terms.

Why Three People?

Too often people leave a campaign group, move away, change their e-mail address or forget their password. If there are at least two remaining people in your group who can use Zylum, the campaign website and e-mail lists will not be abandoned and you should be able to appoint a new Owner.

Passwords

Your Zylum password is e-mailed to you when your registration is approved. Robots can try to guess passwords using a dictionary, so your password will be a mix of letters and numbers.

I can’t log in

Your username is simply your usual e-mail address. If you have recently changed your e-mail address but you remember your Zylum password, try to log in with your old address and contact us about updating your details.

If you have forgotten your password, you can vist the Forgotten your password? page to have a new password delivered to your inbox.

If you have changed your e-mail address and forgotten you password, you will need to request a new invitation from the Owner of your Zylum group. If you are an Owner, contact us about updating your details.

If your group’s Zylum Owner has moved to Mars or joined a travelling circus, you will need to contact us. We can quickly appoint one of your Deputies as Owner, please let us know who you would like to appoint. If appointing a Deputy as Owner doesn’t help we will try to identify people involved in your campaign, in the real world, we can then set a new Zylum Owner for your group, but this may take some time.

Someone new in our group

To begin with you may simply want to add them to your newsletter e-mail list or - if they are keen - as a Participant in your discussion e-mail group. If someone gets more involved in helping to run your campaign, you can add them as a Contributor via manage Participants from the Zylum dashboard.

“Zylum is a great tool for keeping our group connected and sharing campaign news with our supporters. We love the fact that it’s independent, not for profit and free.” Denise, ECOllective.

Background

The Zylum team have given a lot of our own time trying to make the world a fairer, cleaner, greener and more inspiring place. We saw an opportunity to save time, money and headaches by developing the digital tools we wanted but couldn't find elsewhere, and then sharing them so that other campaigns could benefit.

Who is Zylum for?

What Zylum is not

Across the web you will find useful tools, but most have a catch.

For that reason Zylum is not:

Why “Zylum”?

Zylum is named after Xylem, the system which carries water and nutrients to the cells of plants. Xylem is beautiful, organic and decentralised. We changed one vowel, maybe because it is about you. Maybe because it makes it easier to search for online.

How is the service funded?

We promise to keep Zylum free to use for social and ecological campaigns. The project was set up using a grant from a philanthropic trust and we will continue to try to raise funds in this way. We hope that some of our users will donate to keep the service running:
